Ledyard Town Center

K+F has orchestrated the transformation of this small town center from a state highway strip to a pedestrian friendly village.

Ledyard is a small Connecticut town with a state highway and mid twentieth century commercial and municipal development as its main street.  At the time K+F was engaged by the town, the corridor was an auto-centric landscape inhospitable to pedestrians and bicyclists with chronic speeding problems and harsh highway lighting.

The transformation began in 2012 with implementation of the phase one Town Green improvement project. This revitalized space provides a setting for civic gatherings and informal activities. The green includes shade trees, a 2 acre lawn, band shell and walking path. Recent improvements involve construction of a new police department and streetscape reconstruction. Subsequent planning by K+F includes a vision plan for a mixed-use expansion of the village and pedestrian and bike connections to nearby neighborhoods and schools.
