Hygenic Art Park

Located in downtown New London, the new park serves on a daily basis as a quiet refuge with a variety of seating areas in shade and sun, a fountain, lush plantings and seasonal sculpture displays. During downtown festivals it serves as an event venue with a capacity of over 300 persons.

The main plaza serves as the primary gathering space for parties, receptions and displays. A dense grove of Linden trees provides shady seating for moveable furniture and open views to the amphitheater. Musical and theatrical performances are held on the raised stage and sheltered by the classically designed backstage building. The amphitheater accommodates small audiences on the intimate lawn area as well as large productions when the park can hold 300 people with sight lines to the stage.

The park includes full utilities for professional sound and lighting. The work of several notable local artists was incorporated into the design. The Project was awarded the 2010 Award of Excellence from the CT Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
